A New Dress

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while and keep being enticed into cooking posts…
A dress, made for June, but worn more by Aiden (doesn’t she look thrilled with it?) b/c June has another dress she loves and can hardly be bothered to wear anything else! She gets “favorite outfits”. Maybe this one will become her got to dress at some point. We’ll see.
I used See and Sew B5198 (given to me by Sara on my last birthday). I love the dress as well as getting to use a bit of nice linen I found on the sale table at the fabric store. I lined the sleeves and bodice with an old, soft sheet. The flower (pinned on the bodice) I made using a technique you can find here. It’s going to be a great summer dress pattern to be used with a more colorful cotton print.
Unrelated to sewing: I finished Molly Wizenberg’s book, A Homemade Life. It’s got some really beautiful moments. The recounting of her father’s death at their home is especially moving. The way she ties food with stories is so interesting. It’s so appropriate since everything we make or eat is bound, tightly, with a story from our lives: who was with us, what was going on in life when we made/ate it, predominate feelings, etc. For it to be told like that allowed the reader to see a lot more of her than if it was just told in prose. I liked it.
Aiden may not look too happy, but I think it is really cute! The flower is a nice touch.
Thanks, Joy. It’s a cute pattern. I think she looks like she’s in some institution for girls! The picture kind of cracks me up.
